Ever since C. J. Box introduced us to Nate, I have been wondering what was driving him to be the person that he is. And now we know and what a story it is!!

I didn't think Mr. Box could out do himself but he did with Force of Nature. An exceptional read with action, suspense and a riveting story to keep you hanging on to the edge of your seat. The evolving of Joe Pickett, his wife, Marybeth and Nate Romanowski make you feel that you truly know the characters as well as you do your own friends. They have evolved into one of the most exciting and suspenseful series of books that I have read and I have read many, many books.

The story does not let up from the first page to the very last and leaves you wanting more and more and more. True friendship is hard to find and to hold on to but Joe and Nate and Marybeth are true to each other and what they believe in.
This book is very very good but you really need to read all the Joe Pickett novels in order (as I did) and you will see what I mean.

A book by C. J. Box is always high on my "must read" list. Like a lot of other mystery/thriller writers, the thriller elements in Box's books are strong, but what elevates them a notch or two above the ordinary is Box's great feeling for his landscape, whether it is Wyoming or Idaho or Yellowstone Park. Joe Pickett, a Wyoming game warden out of Saddlestring, Wyoming, is a solid series hero. He is earnest and ethical, strong and resourceful; he knows his country and its people, and we learn about both from him as we follow him through his stories. Joe is also a strong family man with three daughters, one a troubled teen whose rescue was the heart of one of the Joe Pickett stories. Joe also has an ally on what might be called "the dark side." Nate Romanowski appears first in the Pickett stories as a loner and hermit who shows great ability with action and firepower when required by his friend Joe. Nate is also a falconer who teaches Joe's daughter the basics of the sport--art--age-old human activity. Nate's past has come back to haunt him and drive him deeper into the wilderness and into isolation through the course of most recent Joe Pickett stories. In this one, aptly entitled "Force of Nature," Nate meets the demons of his past head on--and it is an exciting ride.

Box's books are always "page turners." They are expertly plotted and hook you so you find it really hard to stop reading and put it down, even if it's three o'clock in the morning and you got to work tomorrow--or is it today? This is one of the best. Once you crank this thing up, you better be prepared for the ride, because you won't want to stop it and go about your business. This book brings Nate's story to a head and to a conclusion. It's as much Nate's story as it is Joe's, although Joe does play an important part in it. If I have any complaint at all with the story it is with the ending. Oh it ends as it should end, how you want it to end--with one exception--but it all seems to come together too quickly.

However, that could be because I practically took in this book in one gulp.

Buy it and read it. If you like thrillers, you won't be disappointed.
I've read the previous Joe Pickett books, so knew in general what to expect. This one ties a lot of loose threads together and at least matches the quality of the others, Great action, superb background and a story line that won't quit. Read the whole series.
Nate's nemesis finally comes after Nate. He had been his boss in Special Ops. Nate went to neighboring states after his girlfriend was murdered, to locate those involved which led to one of his friends (from Special Ops) in the last book. He looks for the men he used to work with and whether it is him or the "bad guys", they leave bodies in their wake. Nate thought he talked his friend Joe Pickett and his family to leave for a few days until this ended, but not completely. So you learn about how a unit like that would work, a little bit on life on a reservation, plus get a beautiful picture of the mountains in all these areas and hunting for Elk. I've enjoyed all the books. Good themes, relationships, dialogue and setting.
Just finished this book. The story of Nate and what made the man is incredible! This character is so tough, and when it is required, is totally without empathy or mercy. The loyalty and protectiveness he shows to his true friends (i.e. Joe Pickett) or his birds is totally opposite of the stone cold assassin he can turn into at a moments notice. Love the Pickett novels! Great reading. Addictive!
Love Joe Pickett. The best character!!! Nate, another great one. The story line is suspenseful- keeps you on the edge of your seat. Didn't want the book to end. Instead, I'm reading all the C.J. Box books starting from number 1. Now reading number 2. A great writer with good background in his stories. Looks like I'm going to spend more money than I anticipated this summer. 😄
I have read five or six of C.J. Box books and for me this is the best so far. The plots are interesting and the setting is the beautiful northwest US, Wyoming Montana, Idaho. The thing I Like best about these books are the values which animate the absorbing stories i.e. love of family, friends, nature, country, and independence. The author doesn't preach. He allows the ch the plot and the characters to illustrate these principles.
Much of this particular book centers around Nate Romanowski a long time friend of Wyoming game warden, Joe Pickett. Nate is a highly skilled, ex special forces soldier who lives off the grid. He is an exceptionally interesting character and in this book we learn how and why Nate came to be Nate.
I am retired law enforcement. Now that I have the time, reading for pleasure, as opposed to work, is one of life's great joys. This author's work offers a bit of an antidote to the corrupt circus that parades throughout much of society and is reflected in our "fall of Rome" culture.
