Facade The Games Book 2 eBook Nyrae Dawn

I'm a bit conflicted on my feelings for Facade. On one hand, I really enjoyed the interactions between Delaney and Adrian. I also really liked getting to know Adrian better. He's definitely not just the pot head party boy we met in Charade. However, I felt like there was way too much going on. Delaney's father got drunk and ran over Adrian's nephew when Adrian was suppose to be watching his feelings. Adrian is understandably devastated and blames himself, using drugs and alcohol to help numb him. Delaney has already talked to Adrian's sister and earned forgiveness, so now she wants to talk to Adrian in hopes of helping them both move on. She doesn't expect to fall for him though.

In addition to Delaney wanting to apologize to Adrian on behalf of her father (at least I think that's what she was doing), she's also dealing with her suicidal mother. And on top of that, her mother hates Delaney for saving her the first time she tried to take her life. Delaney wants a relationship with her mom, but she pushes her away out of jealousy. Yep, her mother is jealous because her daughter spent more time her husband. Delaney is a fixer, and desperately wants to fix all of the broken relationships and people around her. It's a bit much. There's no way someone can shoulder the blame for everyone and try to repair all of the damage. I think the author tried to cram in too many problems for Delaney to handle at once, while also developing a relationship with Adrian.

I did like the romance for the most part in Facade. Adrian definitely knows how to handle women, but Delaney is different for him. Things developed slowly at first, but once they started getting close, it developed way too fast. The story supposedly covers two months of Adrian and Delaney together, but it seemed more like two weeks before she was declaring her love. They barely know each other, and she's keeping a HUGE secret from him for the entire book. I was getting a little annoyed with her constantly backing out of telling him why she really moved to town. Their steamy scenes are super steamy though, so I enjoyed that aspect more than the actual relationship development.

Facade wasn't as good as Charade for me. There were too many personal issues for just two people, and there were quite a few coincidences that seemed thrown in just for extra drama. I would have liked to have gotten more of Adrian's healing process. The whole story was building up to that moment where Delaney confesses, then nothing really comes of it. The story jumps ahead by another two months and Adrian has already made a ton of progress. I love stories of damaged people coming together, finding happiness, and learning to heal, but the author kind of skipped over a lot of that and just gave us the happy ending.

Facade The Games Book 2 eBook Nyrae Dawn Reviews

The blurb left SO much unsaid - but that's the point, right?!
First, I was like 'NO WAY!' Then, I was like 'NUH UH!' And next...
You just have to read this!!!!

4.5 OMIGOSH ***** from the one catching her breath!!!!

This is a book #2 in Games Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, however, the characters are that are introduced in the first book make an appearance in the second and so on. I highly recommend reading as series. There is an HEA. There is no cheating in this book.

Note This book is told in dual POV - my absolute favorite!! There is an HUGE twist in this book and every little stepping stone gets them to this place. I really hate it when I read a review and it spoils it for me... Therefore, I will keep all details out and just share character information.

I was an immediate fan of the series from the first paragraph of Charade (Games#1) - If you have not read it...YOU MUST! But Adrian was a mystery. Well, that's not entirely true. I thought him to be pretty self explanatory really. He was a party animal. A pot-head. He had a party every night and a girl to go with it. When we meet him again in Façade - well pun intended!!

Who exactly is Adrian? I think the book answers this question almost immediately. He's got demons that are unimaginable really. And I know as avid readers, we say that a lot! But this guy. This guy knows what pain is - raw, flesh ripped off the bones pain is. Adrian has lived with displaced guilt, confusion, and he's got enough emotional baggage to take a trip around the world...80 times. He's a pro a turning off the thoughts of the past. The thoughts that may help him overcome and the past. He doesn't feel like he has a reason to. The real issue with Adrian is whether or not HE knows who he is or who he wants to be.

"Once upon a time, there was a guy. Not a real good guy. Some would problably call him the villain. He didn't care, though. He knew it was true. Knew he used people and other $#*! to forget. He didn't plan on changing either. Knew he couldn't. That was who he was, so he might as well acknowledge it, right?

How did he know he couldn't change?

Because, real life isn't made of happily-ever-afters."

Delaney on the other hand...She's a girl who could take that trip with Adrian around the world. Her older brother could come too. He's her best friend and it's the two of them against the world. But when your best friend hates the world and your parents are what's causing the baggage...it makes it hard to stand tall. Things used to be simple for Laney, her family was happy and the future was bright. But her father made a horrible mistake. One he can't ever take back. Now everyone else is making up for that mistake with the consequences. Laney believes if she can apologize, she can make it right. She is the epitome of optimism. Half-full glass when there's only a drop left. She's going to do the right thing so her family will be as whole as it can be, right??

"Have you ever wanted to believe you could make it better? That you have the power to fix so many people's lives, so you set out on this path and then you're not so sure? Don't know if you're doing the right thing, but you're already on the path to making it happen, so you have to find a way to see it through?"

When they see one another in the diner, Adrian immediately sees the ghosts in her eyes and Laney immediately sees his mask. It was so interesting reading. Along with the fact that they find each other very attractive. The lust was pouring out of my kindle!!! Each of them walk around keeping who they really are to themselves. Portraying a 'character' to friends and others usually. But when they start talking and spending more time together... They've never used the masks with each other, but they think they're fooling the other. The only façade is that each is harboring a secret. One that ties them together. The part of the secret for Laney is eating her alive with guilt because she's falling for Adrian. She wants everything out in the open. She wants to be honest with him as she gets more serious. She feels, and has always felt this pull to him. She thought it was because they each had a share in the secret. But now...she realizes it's because he's him and she's her. It has nothing to do with her family or his. Just them. Adrian feels the pull of her, too. He feels that there are parts of himself that he would never show anyone, even her but he still can't deny that he wants to spend time with her. He wants to be near her. Adrian wants to stand guard against the ghosts in her eyes. When things get to be too much for him, he runs. He feels weak and doesn't let anyone into that part of him. But this time, he lets Delaney in.

"I think I want my little ghost to know me. I think she already does. She knows my words, which are part of my soul, a part I've never willingly let anyone else see, yet I show them to her. I write them for her. She knows those parts of me - the only parts of me that aren't a lie. Would she still be here if she knew the rest?"

When things get slippery, boy do they ever!! The twist was amazing! I only figured it out at the last second! HUGE tears rolling down my face!! Yowza! A few chapters of hard-core angst and a side of get-your-head-in-the-game!! But together they are amazing! Have super chemistry and banter and the fact that her calls her Casper and my little ghost...melt my ♥!!! The story line is flawless and the secondary characters are great! Loved that we got to see Cheyenne and Colt and meet Maddox, who gets down to business in Masquerade (Games #3)!! Delaney's heart and thoughts and feelings...agh!! To go running towards something that was destroyed...that could potentially be so damaging to you? I don't know if I could have done it! She was one strong woman!! And Adrian... It's really great to finally know what's going on inside that sexy head of his!! Really great read my book people!!

Thanks for the beautiful story, Nyrae Dawn!!

Let's chat books my book people!!!
First, let me start by saying I loved Charade!!! I will probably re-read Charade and I was looking to a good read in Facade but it just fell really flat to me. Adrian and Delaney kind of got on my nerves, Delaney moreso than Adrian. I got tired of Delaney talking about her big secret and not revealing it until 80% into the book. I was shocked to find out Adrian's reaction and secret once everything was brought to the light. Even before the "secret" fiasco, I had a hard time grasping the love connection of Adrian and Delaney. They had a few cute moments and even though Adrian struggled with a few things he still had a good heart and wanted to save and protect people. I loved reading his POV in the book more than I did Delaney. She is the reason I am giving the book 3 stars instead of 4.

Overall it was an "OK" book. Not great but not horrible just eh.. OK. I hope Masquerade is better. Maddox seems a little more interesting than his sister Delaney.
